Event 10 – 12 finals were held on Sunday 7-6-08 for two of the three doubles divisions: Pro Division Doubles & Division I Doubles Finals (Division II Doubles completed on Saturday night). *Note: Play started after sponsor sale completed. The above events were held on June 28th through Sunday July 6th. There were a total of 135 registered players throughout the tournament which is down some (with the high cost of fuel and economy concerns being a contributing factor). There were only 6 RVs this year (some who normally park their RV flew in, and some others had to cancel their trip if driving or flying was too costly also). The following pages are the preliminary SW Open 2008 tournament results and winners list). Tournament photos were taken by Marty Shepard (NE) and Tom & Lynda French . Many thanks to Marty Shepard for volunteering to help. The complete tournament report with photos will be published in the Table Shuffleboard Association’s (TSA’s) “Table Shuffleboard News” - September 2008 newsletter which will be printed and mailed to all all TSA Members & Sponsors and are posted here on the TSA website's June & July Tournament Results. In addition to the above 12 events held during the SW Open 2008, there were several special awards and activities. There were 24 official robins. The SW Open 2008 - King & Queen of the Robins were:
This year’s Lag Off contest was won by Marty Shepard of Blair, Nebraska! There were 22 restaurants that donated various denominations of gift cards (up to $50 dinner for two) which were drawn and presented to the first 22 players registered for the SW Open 2008. Danny Baxter was the 1st player that submitted his pre-registration and he also won a $50 dinner for two at Mickey Mantles in the restaurant prize drawing! Thanks to all who pre-registered! Gift bags were also given out to players as they arrived and checked in at the front desk (until gift bags were depleted). 50/50s and prize raffles were conducted throughout the tournament. Longboard Products donated “Pro Waxers” which were included in the daily prize raffles. Many thanks to Longboard Products for their donation. Hoot Hodge made and donated a custom weight case for the prize raffles (many thanks extended to Hoot Hodge!) and Vicki Laws was the lucky winner of the weight case prize drawing. In fact, Vicki Laws won the most raffle prizes from the daily periodic raffles. Outside of staff, the first player to arrive was Gilbert Baird of Coldspring, Texas (who arrived in the RV park on Tuesday). One of the highlights of the tournament was the presentation of the 2nd Don Crall SW Open Award to Gerald Wood. To view details about his history, testimonial, and award plaque presentation -> Click Here . Gerald had many friends and family present for this big surprise! Jack Davis asked Gerald to come up to the stage to hear a joke – and to Gerald’s surprise it was not to hear a joke at all, but rather to get him on stage for the award ceremony to start! All visited with Gerald and his family while also enjoying the great annual BBQ dinner. A great time was had by all. Photos taken during the award ceremony and BBQ will be included in the final report. Winner photos will be added to the below winner list as ready to post. A number of players have requested full sized pictures so that they can print & frame their winner photos. So below list and links on these SW Open 2008 web pages (as photos are posted) will be in color in Adobe PDF format so that they can be printed and ready to frame and hang! There will also be a Miscellaneous Photo Gallery coming soon also.
